Some memories stay stuck. Years later, the images, feelings or body sensations can still feel as strong as when they happened. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a structured, well-researched therapy that helps your brain process distressing memories so they feel less overwhelming.
EMDR Therapy for Trauma and Difficult Memories

How EMDR works
We start by building a sense of calm and stability, so you have tools to feel grounded. Then, while briefly focusing on a memory, you follow side-to-side eye movements or use tapping or alternating tones. Over time, the memory tends to lose its emotional charge. You don’t have to describe every detail of what happened.
EMDR can help with
- Single upsetting events, such as an accident or sudden loss
- Ongoing or childhood trauma
- Painful experiences in past relationships
- Anxiety or reactions linked to past experiences
- Feeling stuck despite understanding where the pain comes from
I’ve completed EMDR Level 1 and 2 training and often combine EMDR with Internal Family Systems (IFS) to support both healing and self-understanding. EMDR can be done effectively in online sessions as well as in person.
Sessions are available online across Ontario or in person in Dundas.
