FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

We believe in the inherent value of all people and respect our clients as the experts of their own lives. We are here to join with our clients in meeting the challenges they face.

What can I expect during our first therapy session?

The initial session is a structured intake designed to discuss your history, current concerns, and goals for therapy. It is a collaborative space to see if we are a good fit and to begin outlining a personalized therapy plan. You will receive an intake form and waiver in advance of the session to complete, allowing you the opportunity to communicate your thoughts and goals in writing as well.

Do you offer a complimentary consultation?

Yes, I offer a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation to discuss your needs, answer initial questions, and decide on the best next steps for your care.

What is your cancellation policy?

To respect the time reserved for your care, please provide a minimum of 48 hours’ notice if you need to modify your appointment. Late cancellations or missed visits within this 48-hour window incur the full session fee.

Do you accept health insurance?

Many extended health benefit programs will cover the cost of therapy with a Registered Psychotherapist. Please check with your insurance provider before booking your session. Additionally, services provided by a Registered Psychotherapist are tax deductible as a medical expense.

How long does each therapy session last?

Standard individual therapy sessions are 60 minutes in length, unless 90 minutes is preferred by the client or recommended by the therapist. Couples therapy sessions and EMDR sessions are 90 minutes in length.

How often will we meet?

Session frequency depends on your unique goals, though meeting weekly at the start is highly recommended to build momentum and ensure continuity. We will collaborate on transitioning to bi-weekly sessions as you make progress toward your goals. Ultimately, however, you get to decide when and how frequently sessions will be.

How long will I need to be in therapy?

The duration of therapy varies greatly depending on your specific goals, the complexity of the issues, and your individual pace of healing; some clients find resolution in a few months, while others prefer longer-term support.

Is what we discuss in therapy confidential?

Yes, confidentiality is a cornerstone of therapy. Your privacy is of the utmost importance. No information regarding your therapy can be shared with anyone else without your explicit, written consent, except in specific situations mandated by law to ensure safety.

Do you offer in-person or online (telehealth) sessions?

I offer both in-person sessions at my office and secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth sessions for clients residing within my licensed jurisdiction (Ontario, Canada).

How do I know if therapy is working for me?

For individuals, success means feeling more secure in your own self and less ruled by anxiety or past patterns. For couples, it means breaking negative cycles of conflict, rebuilding emotional safety, and finding new ways to reconnect and support one another.
